Ballincollig has changed more in thirty years than most towns in Cork. The army left Murphy Barracks in the late 1990s and the site became a new centre of shops, apartments and offices, the estates spread along both sides of Main Street towards Ovens and Inniscarra, and in 2019 the whole town was drawn inside the Cork city boundary. What was a village on the Lee with a gunpowder mills is now a big suburb-town with its own Main Street trade: barbers, beauty rooms, dentists, creches, pharmacies, and a lot of gyms and fitness studios. Website design in Ballincollig is largely for that trade. We are based in Dublin and work with Ballincollig businesses remotely: a video call for the first chat, WhatsApp after, and a site built from the photos and details you send rather than from a visit.
January, September and the WhatsApp group
Fitness is seasonal and Ballincollig’s gyms feel it. January brings the resolutions, September brings the parents whose children are back in school with an hour to themselves, and both groups search ‘gym Ballincollig’, ‘pilates Ballincollig’ or ‘personal trainer near us’ and look at whoever appears with a class timetable, prices and a way to book. Between those peaks the referrals happen in the estate WhatsApp groups and the parents’ groups from the schools, and every referral ends with a search for the name that was recommended.
A studio that runs on Instagram alone has no answer to that search. The timetable is in a story that expired, the prices are in the direct messages, and Google shows nothing. Our guide on whether you need a website if you have Instagram goes through what each one does.
Inside the boundary, outside the city
Since the boundary change Ballincollig is officially Cork city, but nobody here searches that way. People type ‘dentist Ballincollig’ because they want somewhere they can walk or park, not a practice on Patrick Street. The site should say Ballincollig in the title and on the page, carry the P31 routing key in the address and the structured data, and have the Google Business Profile pinned to the right door. For a trade that travels, Bishopstown, Wilton, Ovens and Inniscarra can be named as places you serve; for a shop or a clinic, the one place name is enough.
Bookings for classes, deposits for the rest
The thing a Ballincollig fitness or beauty business most often needs from a site is booking. Classes with a cap, trainers with a diary, physios with a waiting list, beauty rooms with long appointments that hurt when they are missed. Complete includes a booking system with staff, services, reminders and deposits, or we connect the one you already pay for and make the website the front door to it. The guide on how to take online bookings sets out the options without pushing one.
Families and the Regional Park
Ballincollig is a family town. The Regional Park along the Lee fills with buggies and dog walkers at the weekend, the GAA, rugby and soccer clubs are big, and the demand for creches, after-school care, swimming lessons and children’s dentists never lets up. Those businesses are found by parents searching from the estate, often before they have moved in, and a page that answers a parent’s questions (hours, ages, availability, fees or a from price, who runs it) gets the enquiry.
Price
Essentials is €499 to set up and €50 a month. Complete, with the bookings and payments a studio needs, is €1,499 and €100 a month. Both exclude VAT and neither has a contract. The pricing page has the detail and the gyms page shows what we build for a fitness business.
