Nobody in Cork says they are from County Cork. They are from North Cork or West Cork or East Cork, from the harbour or the city, from a parish, because the county is too big for anything else. Mallow, Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Charleville and Kanturk are the dairy towns of the north along the Blackwater. Midleton, Youghal and Cobh are the east, with the distillery, the beaches and the cruise liners. Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Passage West and Ringaskiddy are the harbour, with the pharmaceutical plants. Ballincollig is the city’s western suburb grown into a town of its own. And West Cork begins at Bandon and runs through Kinsale, Clonakilty, Skibbereen, Bantry and Schull and out along the peninsulas to Castletownbere, a region with its own food, its own festivals and its own visitors. Website design in County Cork, for a business that covers more than one town, begins with deciding which Cork you actually serve.
We are based in Dublin and we work with Cork businesses remotely. The first chat is a video or phone call, the details and photos come by WhatsApp, and the site is built from what you send. We have no office in Cork, in the city or in any of the towns.
Name the towns, not the county
A trade that says it covers Cork is making a promise it probably does not mean. A plumber in Mallow is not driving to Bantry. A wedding photographer in Clonakilty might cover all of West Cork and never see Youghal. The site should state the real patch, town by town, with a sentence or two about the work you do in each, because Google shows a search from Fermoy a page that talks about Fermoy, and a page that says “all of Cork” is shown to nobody in particular. With Complete we add those town pages month by month. The Google Business Profile should be a service area business with the same towns listed, matching the site exactly, and what local SEO is explains why the matching matters.
Food, visitors and the plants
Three things run through the county’s trade. Food and drink: the dairy co-ops, the cheese makers, the black pudding in Clonakilty, the whiskey in Midleton, the markets, and the restaurants that built a reputation on all of it. Visitors: Kinsale as the start of the Wild Atlantic Way, Cobh’s cruise ships, Blarney, the West Cork peninsulas and Youghal’s beaches, with a summer rush and a January so quiet that some places close for it. And the industry around the harbour, Little Island and Carrigtwohill, which fills the towns south and east of the city with people who moved from elsewhere and search for every service they need. The visitor searches from a phone on the street, the newcomer by town name at night, and the farmer asks a neighbour first and then checks Google to see whether the name looks real. One proper page serves all three.
Farms and the trades that serve them
Between the towns Cork is farming country, dairy above all. Agricultural contractors, machinery repair, vets, well drilling and septic tank crews and farm shops work from yards across the county, mostly on a Facebook page and a phone. Their regulars do not need a website. The people who have just bought a house on an acre outside Macroom, or who want to buy their meat from a farm shop instead of a supermarket, do. A plain page naming the parishes you serve and showing the work is enough to be found by them.
Working with us from Cork
You send hours, prices, photos and the towns you cover; the site is live within days; you edit hours and prices yourself from your phone; a report arrives each month. The .ie domain is registered in your name, and registering a .ie domain explains what the registry needs. Essentials is €499 to set up and €50 a month. Complete is €1,499 and €100 a month and adds bookings, payments, chat, review requests and the monthly town pages. The pricing page has both in full, and the trades we build for are under websites for.
