Website design in County Offaly

Offaly is a county whose work changed in a generation. For most of a century the bogs were the employer: Bord na Móna cut the turf and the power stations at Ferbane, Rhode and Shannonbridge burned it. Shannonbridge closed in 2020, peat harvesting for power ended in 2021, and Lough Boora is now a park of lakes and sculptures on the cutaway bog. What is left is what was always there underneath: cattle and tillage farms, the Grand Canal threading through Edenderry, Daingean and Tullamore to Shannon Harbour, the Shannon itself along the west with Banagher and Clonmacnoise on its bank, whiskey in Tullamore, and towns full of trades. Website design in County Offaly is for those trades and the farms and visitor businesses around them. We are based in Dublin and have no office in the county. The first conversation is a video or phone call, your photos and details come by WhatsApp, and we build the site from what you send.

Three towns that look three ways

Offaly’s towns do not face the same direction. Tullamore is the county town, with the hospital, the council, the distillery and the Galway train, and it serves the whole midlands. Birr in the south looks to Roscrea and Nenagh as much as to Tullamore, and gets visitors for the castle and the telescope. Edenderry in the east is a commuter town close to the M4, whose people work in Dublin and Kildare. Clara, Ferbane, Kilcormac, Banagher and Daingean sit between, each with a main street and farms all around.

A business in any one of them works into the others and across the county lines into Westmeath, Laois, Galway and Tipperary. The search a customer types has the town in it, not the county: “fencing contractor Edenderry”, “vet Banagher”, “firewood Clara”. So the page has to carry those town names honestly.

Boats, bogs and visitors

Offaly has a quieter tourist trade than the coast, but it has one. Cruisers come down the Shannon to Banagher and Shannon Harbour, coach tours stop at Clonmacnoise, walkers and cyclists use the canal towpath and Lough Boora, and the Slieve Blooms draw hikers to Kinnitty. Those visitors search from the boat or the car park: a B&B with a room tonight, a pub doing food, a taxi back from Shannonbridge, a bike repair. They often do not know which village they are in, so the business that states its village, its hours and its phone number plainly is the one they find. Our guide to getting your business onto Google Maps matters more for a canal-side pub than for almost anyone.

How a county-wide trade should read on the page

If you cover Offaly from a yard outside Tullamore, the site should not say “serving the midlands”. It should say Tullamore, Clara, Kilbeggan, Daingean, Edenderry, Birr, Banagher, and whatever else is true, each with a line about the jobs you do there. Google shows a search from Birr a page that talks about Birr. Tullamore is R35, Birr is R42 and Edenderry is R45; your own Eircode belongs on the contact page, but the town names do the finding. Set the same towns as the service area on your Google Business Profile, and register the domain in your own name so it stays yours. The registry rules are in how to register a .ie domain.

The trades we see most in Offaly are agricultural contractors, machinery repair yards, vets, septic tank crews, fuel and firewood suppliers, builders, and lately solar installers putting panels on farm sheds and bungalows. Most run on a Facebook page and a mobile. The customer they lose is the one who just moved into a house outside Rhode or Cloghan and has nobody local to ask.

Cost

Essentials is €499 to set up and €50 a month, one site with your towns named. Complete is €1,499 and €100 a month and adds monthly local pages, bookings, payments, chat and review requests. The pricing page has the detail; the agricultural contractors page shows a rural trade site.

Questions from County Offaly

I am based in Edenderry but most of my work is in Kildare. Which county does the site say?

Edenderry, Co. Offaly, because that is where you are and where your Google pin sits, and then Rathangan, Kildare town, Enfield, Allenwood and wherever else you work, named in plain sentences. The customer in Rathangan searches Rathangan, not Offaly or Kildare. The county only matters on your address line.

Is the first meeting in person?

No. We are in Dublin and have no office in Offaly. We talk by video or phone, you send the photos and details on WhatsApp, and the site is built from those. Changes, the Google work and the monthly report then run exactly as they do for a Dublin client.

We have a B&B near Clonmacnoise. Do we need bookings on the site?

If you let more than a handful of rooms a week, yes. With Complete guests book and pay a deposit on the site and the money goes to your account, or we connect the booking system you already use. On Essentials the site shows the rooms, the prices and a WhatsApp button, which suits a smaller house.

What does a county-wide site cost?

Essentials is €499 to set up and €50 a month. Complete is €1,499 and €100 a month and includes the monthly local pages that a trade covering several towns needs. Both exclude VAT, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice.
